Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer ($26) is a sizzling hot new concealer available in a whooping 50 shades that launched earlier this month. Needless to say this created quite a buzz when it launched and I was eager to try it partly because of that hype and also, because I’m a complete concealer junkie.

Fenty shook up the makeup world and got a lot of brands to finally open their eyes about releasing foundations and concealers in larger shade ranges. In a short time, the brand, still in its infancy, has managed to gain a massive following and has introduced many new and seasonal collections as well as some very important base products like Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer.

I recently reviewed the new Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder which launched with this concealer and was quite impressed with the formula. This had me very hopeful that Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer would also be just as good.

Here’s my thoughts, swatches, and review on the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer is 0.27 oz in size and will set you back $26. It comes with a standard sponge applicator that can be used to quickly swipe on the concealer. According to Fenty the formula is “light as air with medium to full coverage”. It was created for under eye use as well as to conceal imperfections around your face.

I’m likely the minority here but I tend to purchase concealer to use under my eyes and not on my face. I’m also a little odd in the fact I like light, natural foundation coverage but I love full-coverage, pigmented concealers under my eyes as I suffer from puffiness, finer lines, and my eye tend to look very tired without concealer.

Needless to say this formula sounded perfect. Lightweight? Awesome! Medium that builds to full coverage? Works for me!

One of the first things that impressed me with Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer is the super creamy texture. This formula has a very creamy texture that swipes easily under my drier eyes. I thought it was a little weird the finish is never truly discussed by Fenty. I haven’t read details about it being matte or satin or dewy or hydrating. It’s only ever described as creamy which it sure is. I’m going to go ahead and say it’s a satiny matte finish that doesn’t feel lightly hydrating initially.

And that’s probably the only positive thing I have to say about it. But before I get into my issues with the formula I’d like to say this might be better suited to someone who’s a lot younger than I am and perhaps a lot less dry. Concealer is a “your millage may vary” type of product. It’s all based on your skin type in my opinion, the amount of coverage you need, and how many lines you have under your eyes. Which means it’s going to perform differently for everyone.

In my case, it was a no go and I’d say if you’re a bit older, have finer lines, and perhaps drier skin you’ll also have issues with it.

The first problem I had was blending. It’s a beautifully creamy texture but the blending is awful for some reason. I tried with my fingers, I tried with one of my Artis Brushes, I tried with a Beauty Blender, I tried with a damp Beauty Blender…I tried let’s just say that. I actually tried it with a few different eye creams because I thought my eye cream was hindering the blending process but it’s obviously the formula! For some reason it blends rather poorly and patchy. It also sheers out a lot as I blend. It seems very pigmented at first but I wouldn’t call it full-coverage at all and it’s not a concealer you’ll want to build up because it creases, it creases badly. If you have a smooth under eye area you might not have any creases issues at all but as someone with finer lines I most definitely had issues within the first hour of wear and only getting worst as the day progressed even when I set it with powder.

The creaminess of the formula is divine but misleading as I felt positive it would blend like an absolute dream due to that creamy texture. It feels like Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer had so much potential but somehow they loss their way….! You might love it so, I actually urge you to try it in store before deciding if you need it or not.

Personally, I was really disappointed. I expected this to head onto my holy grail list but the poor blendability, lack of coverage, and creasing made it a no go for these tired, dry eyes.

This concealer promises lightweight, medium-to-full coverage but I felt like the coverage leaned more towards medium once blended. The concealer formula is creamy and in this area it excelled but in more important areas it failed. I felt it blended out patchy and within an hour of wear it creased very badly not to mention the coverage sheered out considerably during the blending process.
