Becca Medium to Deep Under Eye Brightening Corrector Review

Becca Medium to Deep Under Eye Brightening Corrector ($32) is a new shade for medium to darker skin tones that was sadly lacking from the original launch. I actually didn’t like this product at all when I originally purchased and tried it but I thought I’d revisit it now that they have a new shade as I was curious if that might somehow change my mind. You see, the original shade was not very flattering on me. It’s a pale pink shade that reminded me of calamine lotion. It looked quite frosty and odd under my eyes. A lot of that is redeemed with the medium to deep shade so, there’s a good deal improvement here in the shade.

Let’s take a look!

As I said above the shade is quite better in this release. I think the lighter shade produces more of a luminous frostiness under my eyes where as this medium to deep shade lacks that luminosity and has way better color correcting abilities. They still promote it as a light-reflecting illuminating corrector but I just felt like this shade didn’t put a strobe light under my eyes the way the lighter one thing.

Sadly, this shade didn’t work out for me either as it was a bit too dark. It’s a tan orange-y shade which will diffuse the look of dark circles under a darker skin tone than my own. Orange is an excellent way to diffuse darkness on medium, tan, and darker skin types. I think I’d probably fit right in if they had a light to medium shade available but sadly, the original just doesn’t work for me.

The formula is lightly creamy, thin in texture, and blends easily enough. It is highly emollient though which may or may not be a problem if you have oily skin. I had no application issues with it and it didn’t crease into my finer lines. I’ve said it in the prior review I did on the original shade, the formula isn’t the problem, just the shade yet again fails for me but not as badly as it did in the lighter version. I still stand by my belief they did a far better job with this finish compared to the original one. There’s no luminous glare with this! It’ll diffuse darkness without a bunch of frosty luminous flashback and I’m quite alright with that. Although pigmented, I wouldn’t say this completely eliminates the need for concealer. I think the color has a strong orange-y finish which means you might want to follow up with a more suitably toned concealer. This is something I dislike as I am not one for layering a ton of different products under my eyes. Give me one pigmented concealer to conceal all my issues and I’m good. Start laying on corrector, concealer, etc and things get a little too much for me.

If you commonly use orange-based correctors to correct dark circles I think you’ll be quite happy with this but it sadly, isn’t all that great a pick for light to medium skin tones. I’m glad to see all the shimmery, frosty glow gone from this shade. I hope they’ll release a light medium shade as I would be quite interested in revisiting with this.
